HUBNUBS is a daily compound-word puzzle: sixteen tiles, four hidden hub words, four groups of four. Group the tiles that all combine with the same hidden hub into a real compound — CAMP, PLACE, WOOD, and WORK would all group under FIRE, for instance — and the puzzle checks your work. The twist Connections doesn't have: the category isn't handed to you as a label. You have to hunt for the word that ties the group together.

Every word has a hub and a nub — the thing everything attaches to, and the small essential core underneath it. HUBNUBS is built around that idea: the puzzle you're actually solving is the one you didn't know you were hunting.

Sixteen word tiles sit on a 4×4 grid, and every tile secretly combines with one of four hidden hub words to form a real English compound. Group the four tiles that share a hub and submit — get it right and the group locks in, get it wrong and you burn one of four strikes. Four strikes ends the run, but the puzzle resolves either way: solve or burn out, you see every hub before the day is done.
